DKNY Swaps Rita Ora And Cara Delevingne For Non-Models At the Catwalk

DNKY cast real New Yorkers to model the garments for its AW14 collection

DKNY is up to now the show to make the largest statement at the catwalk at NYFW this season, as Donna Karan eschewed Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora to cast real New Yorkers as models in her show.

While Rita Ora – who’s the face of DKNY and starred in its last catwalk show – was in attendance, she was sat firmly at the side of the catwalk, as opposed to walking down it. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old singer was modelling a fab DKNY leather jacket and tartan dress, which got the flashbulbs popping.

Continuing its 25th anniversary celebrations, DKNY’s AW14 show was much more of a love letter to new york than ever before. Opening with a video which showed New Yorkers speak about their home city, real life city dwellers then took to the catwalk (alongside the pros, too), to model DKNY’s AW14 collection and actually push home the heritage of the logo.

This was as much a showcase of the variety of NYC, and just how stylish its inhabitants are, because it was for the garments. And we loved it.
