London Fashion Week Day Five: 5 Things We Loved

Anya Hindmarch AW14

A model at the Anya Hindmarch AW14 catwalk

1. Be inspired by Bacofoil
Perhaps excited on the prospect of the recently announced Mars One Big Brother-style show to pick out candidates to live to tell the tale the red planet, designers at London Fashion Week went all space-age on Tuesday. Crisp silver foil fabric made an appearance at Simone Rocha (styled with a furry top) and Ashley Williams (on dungarees and bonnets). Just don’t stand too almost about the microwave.

2. Oh, Anya! We adore you
Anya Hindmarch’s fashion week presentations are known for his or her humour, and this season’s was the appropriate one yet. How nice to look the fad pack laughing for all of the RIGHT reasons. Models and male dancers traversed moving walkways with shopping trolleys and baskets, double basses were played by hands with out a body and hands waved from the ground on the end of the show. Oh, and the baggage? Take your choose from an entire host of grocery chic: Daz, Cornflakes and McVities Digestive biscuits all made an appearance, however it was the Tony the Tiger Frosties bag everyone was lusting after.

3. Flats get furry
Barely a show passed in London that didn’t feature flats; Tuesday’s were fluffy, a bit like inside-out UGGs. Sheepskin was the name of the sport at Marques’Almeida, with bright pink and blue lace-ups in addition to dazzling white, while Osman collaborated with Manolo Blahnik for his gorgeous dappled desert boots.

4. Petite models klaxon!
Models are very tall. Most of the InStyle fashion team aren’t very tall. So we were delighted to look models under 5’8” at the catwalk at Meadham Kirchoff. And forget all that nonsense in regards to the clothes “not hanging well” unless you’ve the peak: these girls looked great.

Victoria Beckham have been nominated for 2 British industry awards

Rex

Victoria Beckham is determined to make style headlines another time this December as she takes on a few of the industry’s greats on the British Fashion Awards.

The nominations for the 2013 ceremony has been announced – and the Spice-Girl-turned-super-designer has racked up an imposing mention in TWO categories.

Victoria was nominated for the Red Carpet Award, which supplies recognition to a British designer who’s ‘creating global awareness in their designs inside the media’, where she’s up against the various fashion industry’s finest – Antonio Berardi and Erdem.

In her second nomination category – for Brand Of The Year – she faces compeition from Alexander McQueen and Burberry.

The British Fashion Awards are judged by over 300 of the industry’s retailers and experts and the winners can be announced at a celebrity-studded ceremony at London’s Coliseum on 2 December.

Last year, Victoria walked away empty-handed, but in 2011 she won the award for Designer Of The Year, much to her surprise, beating Stella McCartney, Tom Ford and Burberry. And who could forget that emotional speech on stage where she sobbed her little heart out and thanked David Beckham for his support? Not us.

With a hugely successful year which saw another incredibly chic SS14 range from her fashion house, we definitely think she’ll be heading home with no less than a type of shiny gongs.

Good luck, Mrs Beckham…

The Baftas is all about celebrating the appropriate of British talent, so it is smart that fashion should get a nod in addition to the film industry –  especially because the ceremony happens slap bang in the midst of London Fashion Week.

This year, a few of the biggest names chose British designers to decorate them for the red carpet. American Hustle star Amy Adams chose a black Victoria Beckham dress for the ceremony. The minimalist LBD with given a latest twist with a sheer cropped overlay, making it a great choice for the red carpet.

Lily Allen in Vivienne Westwood at the Baftas

Meanwhile, Lily Allen turned heads in a colourful Vivienne Westwood gown. The singer showed off her enviable figure within the eye-popping tangerine and fuchsia dress, which she also expertly clashed with the red carpet.

Sally Hawkins in Mulberry at the Baftas 2014

Blue Jasmine star Sally Hawkins, who was up for the greatest Supporting Actress award, wore a bespoke Mulberry gown for the evening. The lovable pale blue jacquard number was created in collaboration with the actress – that’s probably why she looks so good in it.

Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen at the Baftas

And Sally’s fellow Blue Jasmine star Cate Blanchett, who won the proper Actress award, went for an easy and chic silk Alexander McQueen gown, which she accessorised with a silver Roger Vivier clutch.

Although the spotlight could have been taken faraway from LFW for the evening, we’re pleased to determine British designers were still the gigantic players on red carpet.

Kate Bosworth has teamed up with Topshop for a brand new winter clothing collection

Kate Bosworth has teamed up with Topshop for a second capsule collection, and it’s simply too good to overlook.

Putting her effortlessly cool spin on winter’s key trends, Kate has embraced this season’s masculine and female looks beautifully.

More diverse than her Coachella-inspired collection we saw – and loved – this summer, the recent 46-piece line includes statement shearling coats, leather shirts and silk-chiffon separates, presented alongside biker pants and elegant, cashmere pieces.

“The collection is adapted and classic. For fall, we would have liked to create luxurious pieces with a powerful minimalist approach,” said Kate, who takes at the role of a design consultant to Topshop.

Adding: “Slim silhouettes are cloaked in a masculine shape, staying true to the combination of masculine/feminine balance that exists in my personal aesthetic.”

The monochrome colour palette, inspired by Piet Mondrian, is injected with pops of red and foiled metallics, while accessories come oversized and just as textured.

We can not help but wonder how Kate Moss’ upcoming collaboration with the high-street store with compare, but for now, fashion fans won’t would like to miss this lovely lot.

The Collection starring Kate Bosworth launches in stores and globally online today, with prices ranging from £35.

Karlie Kloss Hops On Two Wheels And Rides Around Big apple For Coach Ad

Karle Kloss seemed like the other stylish NYC girl-about-town when she saddled up on her vintage bicycle and took it for a spin around the streets for her al-fresco photoshoot for Coach.

The all-American supermodel, who’s now a resident New Yorker after moving to the style capital from her hometown of St Louis, was seen parading the most recent wares from the usa label at the packed pavements of the busy fashion capital.

Paying homage to the ’80s in a large grey and white snakeskin mac belted on the waist, 21-year-old Karlie made certain to inject some sexy sass into her autumn-ready outfit by flashing her high-shine pins whilst posing on her retro ride.

Coach’s world famous leather goods added a bit of luxury to the fresh and fun ensemble, with a beige shoulder bag and white sandals proving the best accessories for Karlie’s trusty trench.

Jennifer Lawrence looks breathtakingly striking in a chain of recent elegant Dior ads, shot by famed photographer Mikael Jansson.

The 23-year-old Hunger Games actress, who’s the face of the French label’s Miss Dior line, works tailored suits and menswear-inspired pieces to perfection within the moody black-and-white shots.

Sporting a dewy complexion, a wonderfully tousled quiffed ‘do and a smouldering gaze, Jennifer manages to utterly outshine her designer threads along with her kick-ass poise and understated elegance – perfectly reflecting the her no-nonsense attitude to life, then.

The minimal shoot is featured inside the Fall/Winter issue of Dior Magazine, a bi-annual publication produced by the French fashion house, which the Oscar-winner also appears at the cover of.

Kendall Jenner Is The Star Of The Marc Jacobs Catwalk

Kendall Jenner on the Marc Jacobs catwalk

Kendall Jenner was almost unrecognisable at the Marc Jacobs catwalk

Rex

Kendall Jenner closed Long island Fashion Week with a bang last night, as she made a surprise catwalk appearance at Marc Jacobs.

Kim Kardashian’s little sister took to the Marc Jacobs Autumn Winter 2014 catwalk in a sheer V-neck top, cropped trousers and boots. Wearing a brief bob wig and along with her eyebrows bleached, the 18-year-old was almost unrecognisable. However was definitely her.

We had a sense Kendall might likely be working with Marc Jacobs someway, after she shared a snap of herself with Jacobs’ long run collaborator and friend, Katie Grand.

Kendall Jenner with Katie Grand

If there’s one designer who knows the right way to get people to perk up and take notice, it’s Marc Jacobs. First he cast Miley Cyrus in his Spring Summer 2014 campaign, and now he’s using a woman from probably the most talked-about families in his shows. A savvy move, Mr Jacobs.

Watch out Kim, it appears like your little sis goes to be a bonafide fashionista…

10 Things We Loved About Long island Fashion Week

The Marc Jacobs catwalk

The Marc Jacobs AW14 catwalk

1. VB wears flat shoes!
OK, so this isn’t today’s news – we’ve all been a fan of a monk strap shoe because the designer was snapped wearing them a few years ago – but fashion editors couldn’t wait to share their pictures of Mrs Beckham’s GORGEOUS black Saint Laurent flats on Instagram. Not just that, she let slip that she’d desire to launch a shoe collection sooner or later. Be still our beating feet.

Victoria Beckham out and about in New York

2. New beginnings at Marc by Marc
Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier’s long awaited first collection for Marc by Marc Jacobs – or MBMJ as we’re to name it now – was a stomping mixture of sports-chic (trousers tucked into long socks, boxing boots, rugby shirt stripes) and gothic Victoriana (long layers of netted skirts, high necks, oversized shrugs that gave the impression of bows). Mohammed Ali meets Miss Haversham…and makes a shockingly perfect pair.

3. That’s no moon…
It’s a bit-known incontrovertible fact that many fashionistas are secret Star Wars geeks, and none less so than Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte by the appearance of factors. Whether you might want to go all out with Luke Skywalker to your gown or prefer something more subtle – like Tatooine’s two suns or the Death Star – the sisters have it covered for AW14.

4. Tommy Hilfiger does slope style
Not necessarily inspired by the winter Olympics in Sochi but definitely making us contemplate the half pipe finals, the Tommy Hilfiger collection was suffering from board sport references. We were particularly keen on the woolly socks styled with skate shoes, and snowboarding goggles as an unnecessary but very cool head accessory.

5. Fashion anniversaries
In the second one instalment of her brand’s 40th anniversary celebrations (the primary was a celebration last month), DVF’s catwalk show came complete with gold glitter rain and a cake with candles, while Donna Karan showed her 30th anniversary collection at the runway this week.

Diane von Furstenberg

6. David Beckham’s family selfie
Yeah, yeah – we all know you’ve all seen this picture already but do you really want another reason to watch it? We like this family.

David Beckham with his children

7. Fashion’s 5 a day
We’ve grown very keen on our statement sweatshirts this season, so we were delighted to identify these bananas, apples and pomegranates at Ostwald Helgason. Fruity!

8. The gathering so good we wish to buy it all
Proenza Schouler’s printed trousers and skirts, cropped cocoon jackets and two-tone crossover pointy shoes had us at hello. We literally wish to buy all of it. SWOON!

9. Bag of the week
We’re not ordinarily fans of the bum bag – usually a final minute styling thought when a designer desires to go slightly Eighties – but we’ve fallen hard for these at Steve Alan. More like a cross body bag on a belt, and the entire more stylish for it.

10. An Instagram dream at Marc Jacobs
This number of soft muted colours- the primary from the designer since he resigned from his post at Louis Vuitton – was gorgeous, but it surely was the clouds suspended from the ceiling that basically made this show. Dreamy.
