Alice Temperley

Alice Temperley: ‘Lea Seydoux is such a fascinating beauty’

Alice Temperley is a designer best known for creating elegant, dreamy dresses ordinarily seen at the likes of the world’s most renowned women – Kate Middleton, her sister Pippa and Keira Knightley are all huge fans.

Having had her own label, Temperley London, since 2000, the 38-year-old designer is now undoubtedly a household name. Temperley’s contribution to the craze industry was offiically recognised by the Queen in 2011, when she was awarded a MBE.

The designer’s latest venture is in partnership with another British heritage brand – Gordon’s Gin – to create ten limited edition bottles. We caught up together with her to speak fashion, parties and red carpet dressing.

How did the collaboration with Gordon’s take place?

Gordon’s approached us to collaborate with them and as two British brands with strong heritages it gave the impression of an excellent partnership and that i like a G and T in all its Britishness…

Growing up on a cider farm inSomerset sounds pretty idyllic, is that a life you need to come back to?

I still have a lovely home in Somerset that I escape to at the weekends.

London Fashion Week’s just round the corner. Are you able to give us inkling about what inspired your new collection?

St. Petersburg for pattern and Guy Bourdin for mood….

Have you bought any tips for surviving fashion week/month?

A fun dynamic team, a feeling of humour and enjoying it…

Your designs are loved by many girls everywhere, why do you suspect your designs are so enduring?

I aim to create timeless, feminine designs that combine meticulous detail and embellishments with an English eccentricity and personality drawing on everything British. I design for the Temperley woman, who has an independent spirit and is confident, playful and happy in herself anywhere – be it the countryside or city.

How does it feel to work out such beautiful, established women wearing your designs?

I love when any woman wears Temperley London especially as there are such a lot of designers to select from. It’s incredibly flattering…

Who would you most prefer to dress for the Oscars?

Lupita Nyong’o, she was outstanding in ‘12 Years a Slave’

What’s the simplest fashion party you have ever been to?

The launch party for our flagship store on Bruton Street in December 2012, closely followed by our three hundred and sixty five days anniversary party last year which was combined with the launch of the Temperley and Gordon’s 10 Green Bottles project which was an extremely memorable evening..

Have you or do you want to style a movie? Which one, past or present?

When i used to be younger i used to be passionate about watching black and white movies; we didn’t have a TV until i used to be 12 so Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire was my ultimate luxury…I would have loved to be around in that era.

Who’s look are you loving at present?

Lea Seydoux, she is such an enticing beauty.

Day Birger et Mikkelsen: A Lesson In Scandi Cool

Beyond the effortlessly cool aesthetic of black leather (and the undeniable fact that it looks GREAT with blonde hair), there’s a simpler reason to it being the core material of many Scandinavian brands. It’s COLD in the market – as we experienced for ourselves after we attended Copenhagen fashion week. So replacing jeans with sexy black leather strides, or a blazer with a biker negates the necessity for deeply unsexy thermal underwear while achieving a simple, off-duty model style of chic. You can’t argue with that.

And while black leather played an essential component in last week’s DAY Birger et Mikkelsen show, there has been was plenty more on offer too; that classic Scandi feel was mixed with pretty metallic brocade, dusky pink and bright sulphuric yellow wool, and paisley and floral prints. Incorporating this eye-catching colour scheme in addition to more cold weather styling tricks which include long, light layers and chunky knee-high socks gave this show an appeal so that you can translate perfectly to us here within the UK. We do love black leather, but we’re rather occupied with colour and print too, and the 2 make an ideal pairing. The shoes at the catwalk were also a large hit, with gorgeous two-tone heeled booties and 3-tone flat lace-up shoes standing out mainly.

With our increasingly unpredictable climate, Denmark and Sweden are the proper countries to see to for inspiration. We picked up about a tips while we were over there too (today’s new styling idea: wearing a brief black sheepskin gilet over a protracted black tailored coat), and are feeling all of the more chic within the stormy weather in consequence. Click the DAY Birger et Mikkelsen gallery and we guarantee you’ll be inspired too.

InStyle Meets Aquazzura To chat Italian Style And Seriously Sexy Shoes

To celebrate the launch of my-wardrobe’s new Shoe Boutique, we speak exclusively to 6 in their star footwear designers.

Aquazzura designer Edgardo Osorio was raised between Columbia, Miami and London, and now lives in Florence, equating in a seriously sexy design aesthetic. His feather trims, jewel coloured satins and skyscraper heels are worthy of an evening out in any of the world’s party capitals. Edgardo tells us about his inspirations, ambitions and why he has finally decided to step out from behind designers like Roberto Cavalli to establish his own business…

Where did the name Aquazzura come from?

Aquazzura comes from the Italian ‘Acqua Azzura’, this means that blue water. I’ve always been in love with the ocean and the sun and wanted a reputation that jogged my memory of this, even within the winter.  The label takes the assumption of a latest Dolce Vita and a year-round vacation lifestyle. My aesthetic reflects the wonder and class of a undeniable sort of Italian style – never overdone. i feel that small, luxurious details make everything in life look great.

Why did it’s essential launch your individual label?

After greater than 10 years working for other luxury brands i wished to create my very own line with an incredibly specific aesthetic and sensibility. i believe the market is saturated with over-priced and over-designed shoes so i wished to give something simple and complex, but still special. We’ve seen numerous crazy shoes accessible lately – it’s time to bring something elegant back.

How did you prepare in your own line?

Before starting my very own label, I worked for some amazing companies – being at Cavalli and Ferragamo allowed me to be amongst an appropriate people within the industry daily and work with the top levels of luxury on earth. I learned the way to appreciate good design and the way real luxury is made. I wouldn’t be who i’m today if I hadn’t experienced this.

Could you describe your design ethos for us?

I want to mix Italian sophistication and Latin sensuality. Oscar de la Renta once said you’ll want to walk such as you have three men behind you. If you wear my shoes you’ll have five men behind you!

What was in your AW13 collection mood board?

Stanley Kubrik’s film Eyes Wide Shut was the key inspiration behind the gathering. I also checked out images of Charlotte Rampling taken by Helmut Newton within the early 70’s. i like how powerful and wonderful women look in his pictures.

What goals do you’ve for the logo within the following few years?

I desire to turn Aquazzura right into a global accessories brand selling not just shoes, but bags, and a whole range of accessories. My goal is to open stores in every major city worldwide in the next ten years. We already sell in 28 countries within the best shops and boutiques on the earth, but not in our own stores yet. We’re planning to open our first boutique next year in Big apple, soon afterwards followed by London, so there’s a good number of exciting things to appear out for!

Alexa Chung and Diane Kruger have whetted our appetite for the much-anticipated launch of Peter Pilotto’s Target range, which hits Net-A-Porter.com on Sunday, February 9.

Attending the brand new York launch last night, at the eve of recent York Fashion Week, Alexa, Diane, Dree Hemingway and Taylor Schilling were one of the best models for the young, fresh, and – crucially – affordable collection.

Known for his or her bright and ambitious prints, the London-based designer duo are a favorite with the fash pack. Safe to assert, these are the only real pieces anyone’s going to be wearing come London Fashion Week in a few week’s time.

We’ve got our hearts set on a gray sweater – everyone needs a gray sweater – with  a contrast punchy print.

And we’ll definitely be wearing this strapless dress come spring, and be layering it with a clashing print T-shirt meanwhile.

Nicolas Ghesquiere And Louis Vuitton… The Plot Thickens

Nicolas ghesquiere set to go to Louis Vuitton

Is Nicolas Ghesquiere about to become the hot creative director of Louis Vuitton?

Rex

Nicolas Ghesquiere was on the centre of the web rumour mill last night, as news spread that he had supposedly filled the Marc Jacobs-shaped hole left at Louis Vuitton.

The news that Ghesquiere was the recent creative director of Vuitton was “broken” by an Australian magazine, before being picked up by American news sources after which the remainder of the worldwide press. Meanwhile, Twitter was awash with exclamations that Ghesquiere (who made a shock exit from his post as artistic director at Balenciaga last November) was definitely the recent creative director. News certainly does travel fast.

However, everyone can be getting a little bit overexcited on the prospect of Ghesquiere’s appointment on the luxury French fashion house, as Vuitton spokespersons have up to now denied the move was confirmed.

When asked last night and this morning, representatives for Vuitton have neither let on whether or not they are considering Ghesquiere for the creative director role, nor have they given any hint about who else they’ve got in mind.

That said, the rumours about Ghesquiere and Vuitton was circulating for several months, so it’s most likely that there is something in all of this. All we will be able to say for now’s, watch this space…

Victoria Beckham Has Sister Line To Thank For Growing Fashion Empire

Victoria Beckham pictured at New York Fashion Week

Victoria Beckham’s fashion empire has gone from strength to strength

Rex

Victoria Beckham has come some distance since her Spice Girls years and her booming fashion brand is each piece evident of such success.

In documents obtained from Companies House, Victoria’s label has seen its turnover greater than double to £15 million in 2012.

Making drastic improvements since 2011, where VB’s fashion enterprises took a dive into the red, her label now boosts the Beckham family earnings by £100,000 an afternoon.

Following reports that David took home a majestic £14 million in pay last year, it’s no surprise to peer the family selling their beloved Beckingam Palace, if you want to buy a West End property worth £45m (slightly below four times the marketing price in their Hertfordshire home).

So where did all of it go so right? It looks as if Posh can thank her sister line, Victoria, Victoria Beckham, for the logo push, which boasts more cost-effective starting prices of £495. Pieces from her eponymous main line currently start at around £1,300.

This March also saw the launch of Victoria’s own e-commerce store, which stocks both clothing collections, in addition to the Icon and Eyewear range, along with a SS14 edit expected to reach in January.

World domination is probably not too far flung for the Beckhams finally.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley

Rosi Huntington Whiteley shares her lingerie-buying tips

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley knows what she’s talking about on the subject of lingerie. The 26-year-old Devon-born model has designed several super-successful underwear collections for Marks & Spencer, and so is definitely versed in what does, and doesn’t, work in terms of buying smalls.

‘No woman should feel anything below utterly beautiful in her lingerie, says Rosie. ‘Always ensure the fabrics utilized in your lingerie are delicate at the skin, equivalent to the silk and French designed lace i take advantage of in my Rosie for Autograph collection.’

Rosie Huntington Whiteley for Marks & Spencer

Of course, you do not need a boyfriend or husband to purchase you lingerie on February 14th. ‘Make Valentine’s Day fun, although you’re single!  My favourite thing to do is to surprise my girlfriends (single or attached) with somewhat something as a technique of revealing them how much they mean to me.’

And don’t play it safe, says Rosie: ‘Valentine’s Day is the best excuse to experiment along with your look.  Try the Rosie for Autograph Longline Bra for fifties inspired style, or if you’re feeling more daring the Rosie for Autograph Cami Suspender will add some chic sophistication.’

The Rosie for Autograph range is on the market at Marks & Spencer now…
